Andrew and I celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary last month – woop! Since we had just taken a trip to Arizona, we knew we didn’t want to spend a lot of money on gifts. So, we decided to get something for the both of us. I’m thinking Andrew agreed to this idea because he didn’t have to do any of the work – ha! He doesn’t really care about gifts, so my main goal was to do something that would make him smile.
Paper.
I did some research and found that a traditional gift for your first year of marriage is paper. Paper is modest, fragile, and very inexpensive. It’s a simple material that symbolizes the beginnings and growths of a marriage…pretty cool, right? I immediately knew what to do. I remembered that I saved our wedding vows to my computer, and thought about how cool it would be to have them hand-written and framed for our house.
The Gift.
My handwriting is okay, but nothing to write home about, so I decided to ask my friend Cara of Pen Married Paper to help me out. She did such an amazing job bringing my idea to life. When I went to pick it up from her apartment, she had it perfectly wrapped with mine and Andrew’s names on it. I was so incredibly touched by her thoughtfulness and kindness! Needless to say, Andrew was impressed, and this gift definitely brought a smile to his face. I’m still trying to figure out the perfect spot to hang it in our house…I’m thinking that above our bed would look nice. Maybe a gallery wall? xoxo – Lauren
