How to (Artfully) Style a Bar Cart

July 3, 2018

If you haven’t noticed, the infamous bar cart trend has taken the interior decor industry by storm, and I don’t see it going anywhere anytime soon. It’s both functional and pretty, but easier to style and less costly then you may think. Most items you already have laying around your home already. All they need is some strategic staging! Read on to view bar cart essentials, and tips to creating that perfect display.  // xoxo, Laura

The Cart

First things first, finding the perfect cart. My parents gifted Garin this Target Threshold one for Christmas. It’s gorgeous! The leather detailing on the handle is both chic, and masculine. It goes perfect with our current decor. To find one unique to you (Lauren has a metal one similar to this), I suggest searching thrift stores, consignment shops, estate sales, flea markets and antique malls. Otherwise, most home box stores carry them.

Key Decor

There are a few things that every bar cart should house. First off, the libations. Pick your favorites. Tito’s Vodka, Hendricks Gin & Maomi Pinot Noir are staples in our home. Would you believe me if I said I’m the gin drinker? It’s true! Gin & (Diet) Tonic is my jam! Don’t overindulge in other brands that won’t get used.

Second, find some fun glasses that are solely for the cart. Tumblers and wine glasses are the most common. You can scope out some vintage pieces at thrift stores, or even Anthropologie for an exclusive vibe.

To finish the look, bring in some assorted accents such as paper straws, books, artwork, decanters, limes/lemons or garland. Check out the “essentials” below.

On a Budget?

If you still haven’t found the right cart, or unsure about how it may fit into your home, start by grabbing a tray and utilizing the same principles. Include a collection of glasses, some liquor and an ice bucket. This is a perfect alternative for those that live in an apartment!
