Laura’s Modern, Master Bedroom Reveal

January 17, 2019

I’ve shared a few sneak peeks on Instagram over the last year, but I’m finally sharing the full reveal of my master bedroom with you here today! What I really love about this space in our home, is that it is just for Garin and I. We love spending time here together. It’s where most of our big conversations happen, where we look to each other for fashion advice (ha! or maybe just one of us) and where we, most importantly, lay our head to rest. Notice we don’t have a TV in here. Crazy, I know, but it’s one thing we both have strong feelings about. We’ve actually never had one in our rooms, outside of college…gasp!

Before we begin, I wanted to share with you a bit about what it looked like previously, right after we moved in. Remember when I told you Garin wanted to host Griffin’s baptism luncheon here 3 weeks after we moved in? (Read more about it here) Anyway, we rushed to get everything set up and this is how it looked.

Before

Mind you, this room is HUGE. Like weirdly big. Would you believe me if I told you our bathroom use to house a hot tub? OH, and the bedroom had a camera nested above the door? No comment. Anyway, we did not have a lot of furniture to fill it! The items you see above were taken from our old house. While, I think this doesn’t look bad at all, it definitely needed some work.

Room Reveal

First, we needed a bed upgrade. If you’ve seen my husband, you know he’s a big guy. Two of us sleeping in a queen bed just doesn’t work. I bought this bed before we were married for my apartment, so it was time for something new…and larger. We knew we could definitely get away with a king in the space, so we got a killer deal last January right after the new year. We literally say all the time that it was the best money we’ve ever spent. Garin says it feels like we’re on separate continents. I wouldn’t go that far.

This canopy bed is my favorite piece in the whole room. It’s simple lines draw your eye in and up because of our tall ceilings. It sets the modern tone for the room. I originally saw this type of bed at Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware, but they were asking $2000+. But one of our fellow bloggers posted about a similar bed that they got on Overstock, and I immediately popped over to check it out. Of course, it was sold out. I stalked that sucker for months before it finally came back in stock. We got the king size for just $400!! Can you believe it? That’s cheaper then the mattress!! *Note: it is almost always out of stock, but it always comes back quick. Make sure you sign up for email notifications.

We recently converted the fireplace into gas, so it’s been my go-to place to work, or read. It’s so cozy, and offers no interruptions. I can dig winter if I can hang here every day 😉

While trying to figure out what I should put above the dresser, it became clear to me that I already had 2 mirrors, and a gallery wall. It didn’t leave me much else to work with, but then I had my fellow colleague and friend, Aubrey, create this beautiful macrame masterpiece. I showed her a photo of what I wanted and she happily (and splendidly) delivered. I LOVE how it turned out. Be sure to check out Love Knot Macramé, and more of her work here.

How about that view? It’s the best part about waking up here each morning.

Master Bedroom Source List

Bed (King, Queen) // Rug // Nightstands // Lamps // Round Mirror // White Bedding Navy Velvet Pillows // Cream Lumbar Pillow // Throw Blanket // Full-Length Mirror Armchair // Accent Table // Shelving Unit // Dresser // Curtains // Faux Fiddle Leaf Plant

I like to think I’m a smart shopper. Most of the items above are reasonably priced, and/or I got them on sale. Frugal Fall set me back a bit, (rightfully so!) which actually helped me fully decide what I wanted, and to find the best price.

And that’s a wrap! On to the next project-hehe. I’m sure my husband cringes as I say that. Heck, I’m pretty sure he’ll never even read this! 😉

Thanks for stopping by – xoxo
