Why I get Botox (and why it’s OK if you want it too.)

    April 7, 2021

I’ve debated writing this post for years, because, well, the topic is controversial. But, what I’ve learned most about this platform, is that if you’re not talking about it, then it means you’re not OK with it. And guess what? I’m totally OK with Botox.

You often hear me talk about the fact that I am all for supporting a woman’s choice to do something that makes her feel like her best self. Because if it makes you feel confident and beautiful, then that is all that matters. And that goes the same for me too.

    My Story

Ten years ago, I would have never dreamed of getting Botox. First off, I never considered myself “high maintenance,” which was the stereotype I kept telling myself that cosmetic procedures were. Second, I didn’t notice a reason to have such procedures done on myself.

One day about 5 years ago, I saw a picture of myself, and I couldn’t stop looking. I looked angry, and mean. I zoomed in and out a million times, and ran to the mirror and started tearing myself apart. All I could see was the deep line in-between my eyes. It was there permanently, even when my face was relaxed.

That was the first time I truly noticed that I had wrinkles, and that my face was slowly aging. Let me start off by saying, I am OK with age. I have no problem with getting older. Actually, I enjoy it. I see it as a growing experience, and that makes me proud. What I wasn’t liking about these particular lines, was the way they were making me look. And how I was portrayed. That deep set line between my eyes made me look like I was scowling. It made me look mad. I was NOT OK with that.

About that same time, someone in my family had also decided to get it done. She loved the results. That gave me the permission and courage to do it myself. I mention this because, we as women, often times feel like we need to solidify a decision simply because someone else has already done it. And I’m here to tell you, that’s OK. No shame in that. But once you’ve gone that way, OWN IT. And that’s exactly what I’ve done.

    My Results

The results mean so much to me! They’re not scary or unrealistic, but soft and kind. They make me feel like my real self…youthful and fun!

    The Nitty Gritty

Here’s the deal, I think of Botox just like getting your hair colored, your lashes done or any other cosmetic service. I think it’s a decision that every woman can make for herself. And whether you are for or against Botox, both decisions should be equally applauded.

I truly think times have changed, and procedures like Botox have become less “hush, hush” and more vocal. This is definitely something to be celebrated! Because again, whatever you want to do to feel like the best version of yourself, I’m ALL for it.
