How to Create Fall Curb Appeal

    September 28, 2017

Any chance I get to change things up around the house always has me excited for the seasons or holidays. But truth be told, fall is my absolute favorite. Not only do the colors make every home look gorgeous, but it also adds such warmth and charm to your interior and exterior! Today, I’m sharing with you how I traded in my Begonias for pumpkins, and some tips for enjoying these outdoor decorations now up until Thanksgiving.

    TIP #1:

Make sure you buy your mums when they are barely blossomed (like the 14″ mum above – yep, its huge!) because you won’t have long with them otherwise. Also, don’t be afraid to use a few different colors vs. staying with 1 color throughout.

    TIP #2:

When buying pumpkins, be sure to look for ones that have very deep ridges. Those will last longer then smooth pumpkins, which will ensure you can get them to last until Thanksgiving. We’ll for sure get a couple of those for carving once it gets closer though! I also think its fun to use more of the neutral tone shades, and throw the oranges in for a pop here and there. Orange against white is AMAZING!

    TIP #3:

Always group in odd numbers only. Even numbers is too perfect, but working in groups of 3 is always my go-to. 3 pumpkins to 1 mum in this case. Odd numbers create visual interest by capturing your glaze. Crazy right? Plus, it’s actually more memorable!

    MORE TIPS:

    • Switch up your welcome mat. I love the ones that have funny sayings – see below!

    • Add an old stadium blanket for warmth…blankets can be used outdoors too! Just make sure it’s safe from the elements. This Woolrich version below was my Grandma’s from the 50s! (Look familiar? We used it in Griffin’s 1st birthday photos too!)

    • Wrap your columns in corn stalks. Super easy, and cheap!

    • Fill your window boxes with coordinating pumpkins and faux leaves.

    • Line your walkway with pumpkins – how cute!

Can’t wait to see what you’ve done with your homes! Make sure you snap a picture and send it over to us via email at thelaurlore@gmail.com. Until then, happy decorating 🙂
