Okay, ladies. I’ve been dying to share the milkmaid braid tutorial for awhile now because it’s truly one of the easiest hairstyles ever. All my friends always ask me – “did you do that to yourself?” and the answer is YES, but only because it’s so easy! When I’m having a bad hair day or I just didn’t shower from the night before, this is my go-to look (it’s also the perfect solution for day-old curls). I love this hair-do for a wedding or even a casual night out with your friends.
Step 1:
Grab your materials. You’ll need just a few things to complete this look – hairspray, scissors, hair rubber bands, and a handful of bobby pins (try to match the color of your hair if you can).
Step 2:
Put your hair in pigtails with your rubber bands. They do NOT have to be perfect – the messier, the better for me. I don’t always part my hair down the middle, so I don’t put too much thought into this. If you want your braids to start really low (aka – if you have really long hair), make your pigtails really low on your head, much lower than mine.
Step 3:
Braid one of your pigtails and hold the end. Take that end and cross it over the top of your head. Next, pin the braid to the top of your head, using a few of the bobby pins. When you’re done, you won’t see these pins, so don’t think too much about it! If you’re hair is really long, you might be able to create a full crown by wrapping your braids all the way around your head. Mine is more of a half-crown 🙂
Step 4:
Repeat on the other side. This time when you pin the braid to the top of your head, try to hide the ends from the other braid with this braid. I also put a few pins towards the beginnings of the braids (near the rubber bands), so that the braids are really stuck to my head.
Step 5:
Once both braids are pinned to the top of your hair, take the scissors and snip the rubber bands out of your hair. Those were purely there to get you going, but you definitely shouldn’t keep them in! If you feel like it, pull out some of the whispy pieces of hair and curl them to give you extra messiness. And voila, you have the perfect milkmaid braid crown!
