Friends! Can you believe it’s already August? Geesh, where has the time gone?! This has been a CRAZY year so far, so we thought this would be the perfect time to slow down for a minute and update you on our 2018 New Year’s resolutions. Because let’s be honest, we all make those promises to ourselves and then tend to forget about them a few month later. It’s easy to do, we know!
Lauren’s Resolutions
1. Be healthy. Well, I’m going to say this one has been a 50/50 success so far. We ended up doing the Whole 30 diet in January, and I will say, it was pretty amazing. It changed the way I eat (now I read most food labels before I buy anything), and my body had never felt so great! You can read all about mine and Andrew’s journey here. But after that ended, I definitely fell off the wagon for awhile. Work is by far the hardest…there are always free treats and food around me, it’s so tempting! Ugh. Lately, I’ve been trying to remind myself that every day is a fresh start, and to focus on being healthy for that one day.
2. Cut back on the Starbucks. Okay, you guys won’t believe this, but I’ve REALLY crushed this goal. One day, I sat down and looked at my bank accounts and realized how much money I spent at Starbucks on a monthly basis. It was BAD. Ever since then, I only get it when I want to treat myself.
3. Take a Photoshop class. This goal is currently on hold. Andrew bought me a brand new Canon for my birthday, so now I want to get a Mac to store all my beautiful photos and learn how to edit! Once I have my computer, I’ll feel ready to take on a Photoshop class.
Laura’s Resolutions
1. Be more present. I would say this one has gotten better, but it’s still not where I want it to be. There’s still 4.5 months left in the year right? I think I’ve found the most success thus far is by being able to walk away from the dishes, and other things around the house right when I’m done working for the day. I like to spend that time with Griffin. Once he’s in bed, that is when I try to get everything done. Maybe not the best strategy…mostly because I just want to relax before bed, but I’m open to more suggestions, so please throw them my way!
2. Make date night a priority. YAAS! We have gotten really good at this one for the most part. Ha, I say that now, but it’s actually been about a month since we had our last one. We’ve had so many fun things happening this summer on the weekends, so I feel like that is an ok excuse. We have no problem buying back our time…aka, a babysitter. No matter how short the date may be, it’s always the perfect way for us to reconnect after a long week!
3. Read again. Since January I have finished 6 books-woohoo! I’ve actually found that I’m more likely to read a book, if I can hold it in my hand and feel the pages. For a while there, I was using my Kindle, which is so convenient, but it’s just not the same. I’d say this resolution is working out great. My goal is to finish 5+ by the end of the year!
Resolutions We BOTH Agreed On
1. Stay more informed on the news. Ehhh. We’re still working on this one for sure. Anytime we get a free minute, we’ll admit we don’t spend it catching up on the news, but this IS an important goal, so maybe ask us in a few months? 🙂 If only we could find a way to make the news more uplifting to read!!?
2. Put the phone down. This one is hard. Laura is working on this, but she’s no where near where she needs to be. Although, she did put some thought into how she’d accomplish it. She’d like to give up social media for a month, however, as an influencer/blogger, that seems nearly impossible! The plan? She would only be allowed to look at her accounts at the same time she has posted to the blog for the day. And it can only be a creep session of 30 min-TOPS. What do ya’ll think about that? Lauren will also admit she doesn’t think she’s gotten any better at this, but she’s not giving up just yet. Things are about to slow down over the next few months, so she’s going to make more of an effort to give up her phone during designated times and focus more on enjoying what’s happening in real life.
Leave a comment and tell us how your goal crushing is going this year!! We’d love to hear. <3
