“Oh, do it. Do the hustle.”
You better believe I’ve got this playing in the background right now-HA! I know you’ve all seen me post about Stella & Dot before, but did you know I am a stylist for this amazing company? Stylist? You’re probably wondering what the heck that even means?
Before we jump into the ins and outs of this fabulous business, I want to share my story. I’m not sharing because I want a pat on the back, but because I want you to know that by 2030, 75% of women will have a side hustle!!! That’s a whopping 40% more then todays workforce. I know! Shocking right?? If you’re the least bit interested…keep reading.
My journey with S&D came in 2014. I had been married for 3 months, and life was starting to settle down and get back to normal. I had a few co-workers talk me into hosting a style session. I hadn’t heard much about the company beforehand, but all it took was for me to jump online, check out the jewels and contact the nearest stylist. The product was beautiful! I figured, sure, why not have a few friends over for some wine and snacks, with a side of jewelry? That’s what I would normally be doing on my weekend anyway (sans jewelry, lol).
Anyway, that night was super fun! At the end of the session, my now sponsor, Laura, and I got to talking about the opportunity. I had watched her all night, and wondered how this could be so easy?! She assured me it was exactly how it looked. She left me intrigued that night. The next day I brought the idea up to Garin. His first words were, “Sure! Why not?” He was right! What did I have to lose? The small initial investment ($199 for the starter kit, which included $450 in jewelry – a promo at the time) was one of the cheapest on the market, and I knew I could make that back with just 1 show, plus got free jewelry along the way. Duh.
Fast forward 3 years. Stella & Dot has absolutely, 100% changed my life. Never in a million years did I think I would be able to experience the places I’ve been, grow the many friendships I’ve made, and nonetheless make this my (mostly) full-time gig!! You guys. I am not a saleswoman. I will never be a saleswoman. Never did I think I could succeed at something like this. But, here’s the kicker: all of these things happened simply because I talked about what I loved. That’s it. I wore it, I styled it, and I chatted it up. That, my friends, is the modern-day, best job ever. There’s no one telling me what to do, and when to do it. I simply do it my way, on my own time. Take that corporate America! The world is changing, and I’m growing right along with it.
Ok, ok, so the jewelry wasn’t the only reason I joined – although getting FREE product was a big perk! I really wanted to do this to prove to myself that I could be just as successful as my husband. It’s true. That was it. Garin excels as a District Sales Manager for Jetstream, covering 11 states. By trade I am a graphic designer, and although I LOVE what I do, there’s something about commission-based roles that give you instant satisfaction. Especially when you see those $ dollar signs $. I envied that about him. I wanted to show him that I could do that too. I didn’t need no stinkin’ sales background! And just like that, after just 1 year, I treated us to a 4 day, all-expense paid trip to wine country in Sonoma, CA fully funded by my Stella & Dot paycheck.
Here’s the thing, tons of women that I have met were and are longing for the exact same thing. The sense of community with S&D is unbelievable. The motivation this company provides is aw-inspiring. Everyone’s story is different, but our end goals are all the same, and that’s what I love. That’s why cheering each other on is so easy. In a way it’s like you’re cheering on yourself. This job keeps me constantly striving for more, and makes my attitude better each day. My relationships are better, my marriage is stronger, and I’m hopefully instilling the same entrepreneurial spirit into my little boy. I know, I know, this sounds too good to be true, perhaps a little hokey, but the facts are there!!
I’ve listed the most popular FAQ’s below:
- How much does it cost to become a Stella & Dot stylist? It costs just $199 to start. This is your starter kit, which includes $350 in jewelry that YOU get to select, as well as some other essentials like look books, display pieces and helpful material to get you going. It all comes straight to your doorstep. But don’t fret, you are not alone! Myself, plus a community of women are here to help you get started!
- What does a stylist do? A Stylist wears and shares the jewelry to anyone and everyone! This could mean booking style sessions; where you pack up your jewels and head to a friends house for a ladies night out. OR this could mean sharing the style strictly online through social media! OR it could even mean sharing the opportunity and product on the go using our amazing phone technology/apps. The possibilities are endless.
- How much can I actually earn while doing this? Would you believe me if I told you that women have left their full-time careers (thats me!) as teachers, lawyers and CEOs to make MORE in one year with S&D than they ever did in their prior jobs?! Some women make $200 a month, and some women make $10-20k a month – the sky is the limit!
- Are their quotas? No! You are your own boss, and simply run this business the best way you see fit to you and your lifestyle. Of course, there are perks to selling x amount each month/quarter, but it is certainly not mandatory.
Here are some of my favorite Stella & Dot memories, achievements and experiences to date. I am so grateful for this side hustle. I can only hope that I’ve touched just one of you with my story. I’d love to share more with you! Feel free to email me at: lauraharcar@gmail.com if you have any questions at all. Come join us on this journey!!
